Sunsets by the ocean

Hello fellow crafters!

When my husband and I are able to take a vacation, we love going somewhere warm by the ocean. Since we live in the mid-west, this is something that we don't get to do very often. So in between vacations, I recreate those memories through stamping.

Here are my current favorites.  I love doing the sponging technique to create the blue/green hues of the ocean, and the yellow and purple sky of a setting sun. Thanks to all of you that post your great creations as they definitely inspire my creativity. The thing that I like most is that every card turns out a little different.

The cards below were made for a couple of my friends that needed a little pick me up.  I also think these designs would be great for sympathy cards and for the guys in your life.  The version with the lighthouse was made for my brother's birthday.

Both cards were made with the Stampin' Up High Tide stamp set.  Here are few tips when making these cards:

Die Cut Gatefold Cards

Hello stampers and card makers,

I've been working on a friend's wedding invitations and wanted to show you how they turned out. This gatefold design is so pretty and elegant, but I do have to say they do take some time to complete. In the end my friend (the bride) is very happy with them and they were fun to do.

The invite inside the die-cut wrapping is removable. Here's of photo of just the gatefold wrap. The base and the sides have been die cut.

The design uses three different die cutting sets. Below are the instructions including sizes of the finished invitation.

Here's what you need:

White cardstock - cut 1, 5 x 7, cut 1, 6 3/8 x 4 1/8, and cut 2, 3 1/4 x 7Colored cardstock (this invitation used Pool Party from Stampin' Up) - 4 15/16 x 7Black cardstock - 6 1/2 x 4 1/4RibbonHalf-back pearlBackground die - I combined Swirling Grace and Victorian Crosses from SpellbindersBorder die - I used Gemini Dies from Creative ExpressionsAdhesive - I used Tombow mono liquid g…

Tarnished Metal Masculine Birthday Card Tutorial

Hello fellow stampers and card makers!

I am in love with this technique! Doesn't the background look like tarnished metal?

I think this technique is perfect for masculine cards - this one is a birthday card but you could make it work for any sentiment. It's so much easier than it looks and is sure to impress your friends and family.

Here's what you will need:

embossing foldermirror cardstock - gold, silver, or copper2 - embossing powder colorsStazon black inkpadVersamark pen For this card, I used silver mirror cardstock with gold and copper embossing powder. Any combination works, just use what you have. The background is made with a clock embossing folder. Tip: when dry embossing with mirror cardstock use a thinner sandwich in your die cutting machine.  Thicker sandwiches will press the folder too much causing the paper to tear. Once the paper is embossed, take the Stazon inkpad and lightly drag the ink across the raised images.  This gives it an aged look.
